Change the old password on generated
If you keep the credentials you created before you started using LastPass, we recommend that you run LastPass security check, to identify potentially weak passwords. After identifying such passwords, you can change your old password to a password, randomly generated using LastPass.
You can also periodically update your passwords; LastPass tries to make this process as simple as possible for sites that are stored in your Vault.
Change your old password
We will use a Gmail demo account to show how to update a saved site with a new, generated LastPass password.
To get started, log in to the desired site and go to your account settings or settings page, where you can change your password.
When the change password page opens, you will usually be prompted to enter your old password, and enter the new password twice. Click on the field icon in the field to enter the current password, and select a login. LastPass will fill in the current password for the selected login:
After auto complete the current password, you can further click on the 'Generate password' field in the 'New password' field to start generating a random, unique password:
Select the options you want, and if you accept the generated one, click Use password to automatically fill in both the New password and the Confirm new password fields. This action will also create a backup of the generated password in your Vault called 'Generated password for ...'. Further, the system will ask you to confirm whether this action is a password change or a new entry. Select Yes, use for this site to overwrite the existing password with a new one. Select No, save as a new entry to save as a new entry in your Vault, and do not continue changing the password.
Now click the 'Save' button to save the changes to the website. After clicking the Save button, LastPass will offer you either to Confirm or the Save New Site Option :
By clicking Confirm , you will ask LastPass to replace the old password for this entry with a new, generated password. The option Save a new site will allow you to create a completely new record for the site with your old username and a new, generated password.
The next time you enter the site, LastPass will automatically fill in a new, generated password!
If LastPass does not recognize the password change when you save it, follow these steps:
- Log out
- Go to the site authorization page
- Use LastPass to enter a username.
- Copy / paste the password from the 'Generated Password' entry that was saved when you accepted the new password.
- Click "Login"
LastPass will offer you to accept the changes in the site record, and now the new password will be saved in the record in your Vault.
